JAN Code Generator
Make a JAN barcode for products sold in Japan. A JAN code is an EAN-13 whose number starts with 45 or 49: enter the first 12 digits of your JAN number and download a PNG or SVG.
How it works
- 1Enter the 12 digits of your JAN number. The 13th, the check digit, is added for you, or enter all 13 to have it checked.
- 2For a small package with an 8-digit JAN, pick EAN-8 and enter 7 digits.
- 3Download a PNG for labels or an SVG for package artwork.
Reading a JAN number
In 4901234567894, 49 is the Japan prefix. The digits after it are the company prefix assigned by GS1 Japan, followed by your item number, and the last digit is the check digit. Company prefixes come in different lengths, so how many digits are left for items depends on the one you were given.
To work out or verify a check digit on its own, use the GS1 check digit calculator.
