Barcode Checker

Paste a UPC, EAN or GTIN to see whether it is correctly formed. The tool checks the length and check digit, tells you the format, and fixes the last digit if it is wrong.

The digits printed under the bars: 8, 12, 13 or 14 of them.

Valid GTIN-13 (EAN-13). The check digit 1 is correct.

How it works

  1. 1Enter the full barcode number, including its last digit.
  2. 2See whether it is valid, and which format it is.
  3. 3If the check digit is wrong, copy the corrected number.

What a valid GTIN means

GTIN is the umbrella name for the numbers on retail barcodes. UPC-A is a GTIN-12, EAN-13 a GTIN-13, EAN-8 a GTIN-8 and the carton code ITF-14 a GTIN-14. All use the same check digit rule, which is why one tool can check them all.

Fixing a number that fails

If the check digit is wrong, either a digit was mistyped or the last digit was invented. The result shows what the final digit should be. Check against the source before relying on it.
