When to use Code 128
Code 128 is the default barcode for anything that isn't a retail product number: warehouse bin and shelf labels, internal SKUs, asset tags, shipping and tracking labels, and library or ticket numbers. Almost every handheld and USB scanner reads it out of the box.
Because it switches between three code sets and packs digit pairs together, Code 128 is the most compact 1D barcode for mixed data. Keep a quiet zone of at least ten bar widths on each side when you place it on a label.
