GS1 Check Digit Calculator
Enter a barcode number without its final digit and get the check digit that completes it, for GTIN-8, GTIN-12 (UPC-A), GTIN-13 (EAN-13) and GTIN-14. The finished barcode is shown for download.
How it works
- 1Enter the number without the check digit: 7, 11, 12 or 13 digits.
- 2The check digit and the full GTIN appear straight away.
- 3Download the barcode as a PNG or SVG if you need it.
A worked example
Take the UPC 03600029145 (11 digits without the check digit). Starting from the right, the digits 5, 4, 1, 9, 2, 0, 0, 0, 6, 3, 0 get weights 3, 1, 3, 1, ... The total is 15+4+3+9+6+0+0+0+18+3+0 = 58, so the check digit is 2. The full UPC-A is 036000291452.
Where check digits matter
Whenever you build numbers in a spreadsheet or database, add the check digit last. A product list with wrong check digits will be rejected by marketplaces and scanners.
